Organized by Adopting Bitcoin Cape Town
At Workshop 17, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, South Africa
A Bitcoin Circular Economy Summit with presentations & workshops, delivered by pioneers from across the African continent, in order to strengthen existing initiatives and inspire others to create their own circular economy projects.
BCE’s are a useful educational tool, particularly in areas where a lack of economic freedom, financial oppression, authoritarianism, and high levels of illiteracy overlap.
When used in tandem with traditional (written) educational approaches, BCE’s can greatly accelerate Bitcoin adoption. Bitcoin Circular Economies serve as a powerful practical demonstration of how Bitcoin empowers people.
A Bitcoin circular economy is a hyper-localized, geographically concentrated project where individuals earn, spend, and re-circulate sats within the local community.
Salaries are paid in Bitcoin and spent at local merchants, who in turn pay their staff or suppliers in sats, and so the cycle of sats continues.
The goal is to keep economic value circulating locally, as much as possible, and to do so without converting to fiat, continually pushing the boundaries of fiat dependence further outward and, in doing so, increasing the number of localized Bitcoin-only economic interactions.

The purpose of a Bitcoin circular economy project is, first, to empower the local community, who benefit from the practical education these projects provide. Learning through direct experience reinforces understanding and grants access to otherwise inaccessible financial tools.
Second, it offers a practical, real-world demonstration of what full-scale Bitcoin adoption could look like. In doing so, it inspires more people to adopt Bitcoin, contributing to a better, fairer world—one less likely to be dominated by oppressive regimes.
26 Bitcoin Circular Economy Projects
Representing:

The African Bitcoin Circular Economy Summit will be held as part of the Adopting Bitcoin Cape Town Conference - za26.adoptingbitcoin.org
The Summit is scheduled for 29 January, one day prior to the main conference, and will take place at the same venue.
The summit will be recorded and live-streamed for anyone to watch, and re-watch.

An estimated 25–50% of the world’s adult population (1 to 2.5 billion people) are excluded from basic financial services.
And, while not all unbanked and underbanked populations live under authoritarian rule, there is a clear correlation between lack of political freedom and lack of financial freedom.
Both stem from top-down control, weak institutions, and a lack of individual empowerment. Furthermore, there is also a clear correlation between lack of political freedom, lack of financial freedom, and illiteracy.
Under these circumstances Bitcoin is attractive alternative, and raising awareness of Bitcoin through circular economy building is particularly attractive.
Circular economies are an incredibly powerful tool to spread personal freedom.
